Mary Randall

Though 35 years have passed I can still hear Stephen, age 7, calling out, with enthusiasm, "Hi, Mrs. Randall!", and see his sweet, smiling, friendly face.  Stephen was open, guileless, honest, and caring with people, and his love of animals was legendary.    He was a friend of my son, Mark, and my daughter, Susan, as they all grew-up together in Stuyvesant Town.  We all enjoyed knowing Stephen very much and, we all love his mother.
Betty King

Stephen was a beautiful, happy, wonderful baby boy.  He brought  a spirit of great joy and wonder to all that he touched in life.

Stephen had a gentle kind soul who loved animals. people and the downtrodden.

His first real job, at age 16 was with a Fast Food Restaurant.  He was the cook and every night he would make too many burgers so that he could take them out

to the homeless he met on his way home.

As a child, I remember the many days he would sit on the ground watching an ant hill.  When asked what he was doing he would say: "I am watching the delicates playing"  This deep respect for all life was reflected in his entire life.

Fishing as a child was only acceptable if I could promise to release the fish back into the water if it was caught.

This spirit drove him and as an adult, in his own home, which he loved he would "capture" and release any spider, moth or mouse that he found there

During his last illness he adopted a small squirrel that wandered into the house .   He named this little animal Braveheart and stated that the name fit as it took a very brave heart for a little animal to venture into his house and have the courage to come to his room to be fed.

He also befriended an old gray tough street cat who would jump through his bedroom window to sleep with him at night.  They loved each other so very much.

The cat passed away in a little bed Stephen made for him and although Stephen grieved the loss he was so grateful that this little cat had found a warm home and love before he died.

He loved oh so deeply and had a spirit that would never give up.

At 18 he purchased a 1967 Cameraro and decided to rebuild it into a Race car that he intended to race in NASCAR Races.   Everyone knew that the task he had untaken wa formidible however with his determination and skills he proved everyone wrong and succeeded.  He purchased his dream house with a huge garage and spent every spare hour working on his vision.  The car was completed and painted  Bright Yellow.  He named it  "Little Victories" He felt the name was appropriate since it had required numerous "Little Victories " over himself to achieve his goal.

He raced his heart out at EnglishTown Race Track and finally achieved a 2nd place win in the highly competive  drag racing points race.  He was so very happy at this highlight of his life and delighted in wearing the  Competition Racing Jacket  presented to him.  He was so proud of this accomplishment.

He fell in love with the love of his life and they enjoyed many beautiful years together.

He became ill in 2004 and fought for his life valiantly until 2007.  He died peacefully at his home in his sleep.

He will be missed by all whose life he touched.

I love you Stephen

Mom
